URBANAUTICA Searching for habitable spaces. International project. Creative urban studies in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. October-November 2014. The story of Dnipropetrovsk as an aerospatial hub was interrupted by historical changes. It isn’t an industrial giant and social city after 1990 and even not a business capital of Ukraine after 2008 anymore. But all infrastructural successes and mistakes of the past still influence our urban culture. The city is still a living organism, but what kind of? We have to keep some steps back from obsolete definitions and look carefully at this city to re-understand it. And we need fresh eyes to look through its multidimensional fabric and find out the still burning fire in energy points of life. We don’t want to go to Mars for colonization before we re-search our nearest environment for its vital capacity. Project is supported by the Robert Bosch Cultural Managers Network and organized together with 7 Network members from EU. A group of 25 young participants from Dnipropetrovsk (architecture, arts, sociology students and civic activists) will take part in the study cource lead by local experts and Robert Bosch cultural managers. At the end of the cource participants will prepare and organize their own mini-projects in public spaces of Dnipropetrovsk. Topics of studies: - Public space in cities, facilities and functions of public space. - Relationship between private and public . - Temporary vs. permanent. - Down-to-top politics and role of city communities, micro-politics. - The main methods of revitalization, it’s economical and social benefits. - Post-soviet cities, post-industrial societies. The old resources and new chances. Ways of development. - Eco-system of a city, sustainable development, re-/up-cycling of buildings, global value. - Arts in public space (media art, installations, performances) as a medium for creative dialogue and social expression.
