“Study Opportunities for Ukrainian Youth” is a project, aiming to create training programs for youth from Donbass region, affected by the war. Since the occupation of Crimea in March 2014 and the expansion of war into the Eastern regions of Ukraine, a lot of young Ukrainians were forced to abandon their studies and rearrange their daily lives. At least 16 universities, a college and 2 technical schools were evacuated from the region. A region which once hosted 215, 000 students is no longer capable of functioning and providing basic services like education. Some students were able to transition their studies to other Ukrainian Universities, but many were not able to continue and have been left with few options. Several countries have offered a quota for refugee students from Eastern Ukraine to enroll into graduate programs, but it is important to give such opportunities to all of students affected by war. For this reason, we came up with an initiative to create a training program for youth and potential students to get an education abroad. The project aims to inform, consult and assist youth affected by the war by matching their interests with study opportunities both in Europe and the USA. By providing training and workshops, we will provide useful information on the application processes for studying at Western universities, funding options, research opportunities, academic internships, fellowships, exchange programs and their benefits for further career advancement. studyopportunities@y2yinitiative.org
