It’s hard to overestimate the power of reading. According to one of the brightest minds of the 21st century Professor Stephen Krashen, language acquisition is more successful through FVR, Free Voluntary Reading. Twitter Hard book copies are so much fun! But they take space and put you on the horns of the dilemma which books to keep and which to give away. You may regret both later )). It’s different with the electronic books, whatever the format. It’s easy to combine reading with using e-dictionaries if necessary. In this group you can choose abridged or non-abridged books with or without audio files to read and then share your opinion about the author, the plot, your favourite characters. The language of the group is English. What I think. Reading is a part of self-actualization. It will never leave you indifferent. It’s impossible to read without judgement. Thought provoking, isn’t it? At present I am a fan of the idea that thought accumulation breeds thought production and reading is a continuous process of shaping that delicate inner world of yours. Have you ever thought of reading as a tool you use to capture the toad of truth? Gentlemen, start your engines. And here’s another point, when you reread books after a while, you can’t help but notice your views change, you see things in different light, you discover new narrator’s messages, etc. What I really think. I couldn’t agree more with Stephen Krashen’s quote: “Speaking is the result of language acquisition, not the cause”. Can I engage into a quality talk on the books you’ve read before during our classes? Hardly, it’s not on our syllabus. Can I get some feedback in writing, another great productive skill which needs practice too here at vk? And in a non-compulsive chat form? Without grading? Where do I begin? )) Why is it important to try to combine listening to the audio file while reading. Because it’s where the magic and joy of cognition begins… You come across new vocabulary which suddenly is understood without wading through the dictionary pages, you hear the word pronounced, you see the word used in the context. This is why choosing the right reading level is important for you to feel comfortable. The older you grow the less time you have for self-improvement. What you do in this case is time management. A good idea is to combine your work-outs, cleaning, cooking with listening to audiobooks or to use your favourite gadgets for reading and listening while riding public transport.
