EURO 2012 gives opportunities to participate in the Championship and to gain priceless experience to everyone.
It is planed to recruit 5500 volunteers, 2750 for each host country. There are several demands for possible candidates as age qualification, they must be at least 18 on 1 March 2012 and speak English fluently. Also there are few personal qualities required as friendly, motivated, a team player, committed to the values of fair play, respect and solidarity, etc. The other foreign languages aren’t required but they may serve as extra point for your résumé.
However, every host city tries to look better and for this reason prepares its own volunteers. This time speaking foreign language isn’t an indispensible condition. For example, Kyiv has already announced 6000 volunteers recruiting. Kharkiv has gone farther and founded two schools where volunteers study history of the city and foreign language.
The official volunteers programme logo is letter “V” (for volunteer) and Vitaliy Klitschko, UEFA EURO 2012 volunteer programme ambassador, noticed neatly that “V” is for “Victory”. UEFA EURO 2012 volunteers programme logo was developed by Brandia Centrale, company behind the creation of the UEFA EURO 2012 tournament logo. Creator of emblem aims to reflect the victory, passion, festivity, solidarity and unity of the programme and its participants.
And now let’s see all advantages and disadvantages of this programme. Firstly, volunteers will work only in host cities. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Lviv in Ukraine and Warsaw, Wroclav, Poznan, Gdansk in Poland. However, if volunteer doesn’t come from host city, he has to find residence and to pay his living by himself. Moreover, there will be 20 areas of operation therefore they should possess some professional and practical skills and abilities.
Security and law, transportation, welcoming service, accreditation, and events arranging areas require more than 100 people. Also there are some other areas as stadium entering control, arranging ceremony and fan entertainments, VIP escort. IT-services and mass media are to be in the list. So, as anyone can see volunteer should have some knowledge, skills and abilities in order to provide guests with HQ services.
Nevertheless, volunteer should understand and realize that he isn’t going to have any money or tickets for EURO 2012 matches, excluding those who will escort football teams. For this reason, they will be able to assist stadiums and volunteer hospitality zone, where they may have a rest and watch game on TV.
In general, EURO 2012 volunteer programme can benefit in two different ways, material one and non material one. Firstly, employee is provided with full complete of unique uniform elaborated especially for this purpose and he can keep it. Secondly, and it is very important, volunteer is insured from accidents. Thirdly, every volunteer will obtain certificate of participating EURO 2012 volunteer programme with UEFA President’s sign and precious present.
Nevertheless, non material profit is considerably valuable. However, everyone sees his own benefits. For someone is professional development for another one is possibility to try his strength and abilities to work in stressful situations. But the main is experiences gained by means of work with foreigners, arrangement of big event, transport and event logistics and so on so forth.
Nevertheless, volunteer mission shouldn’t be underestimated. They have to complete a hard and significant task, don’t make a fool of themselves and create positive public image of country.
